Verify the Production Floor, Not Just the Paper
A certificate can name a certified parent company while goods are cut in an uncertified workshop. The address on the certificate must match the actual production floor.

A Scope Certificate only proves a factory can make certified goods. Only a Transaction Certificate verifies your specific order meets the standard — suppliers stall on it to skip the batch audit fee.

- Treat the Scope Certificate as facility approval and the Transaction Certificate as your order-specific proof
- Align the Transaction Certificate with your PO number, factory identity, and packaging claims
- Make the Transaction Certificate a condition of final approval, not an afterthought

How to Verify Eco-Certifications

- OEKO-TEX: Enter the certificate number in the official OEKO-TEX Label Check. An authentic match shows the identical legal name, covered article, product class, and validity period.
- GOTS: Search the GOTS Supplier Database by company or license number and verify the exact entity, factory location, and product categories.
- GRS: Read the Scope Certificate for the issuing body (e.g., Control Union), then confirm that body's registry directly.
Scope vs Transaction Certificate
A Scope Certificate only proves a factory can make certified goods. A Transaction Certificate proves your specific batch does. Require the Transaction Certificate before final approval of any organic or recycled claim.
Greenwashing Red Flags
- A certificate whose registry record conflicts with the PDF — the database wins
- A GRS certificate that covers cotton when you ordered recycled polyester
- A QR code pointing to a generic image file instead of the official registry
Electronics Import Compliance
