Fact Checking process

1. The Hierarchy of Evidence

We do not rely on manufacturer marketing brochures or unverified Alibaba/Global Sources “Gold Supplier” badges. Our verification follows a strict hierarchy:

  • Level 1 (Primary): Official lab test reports (e.g., SGS, Intertek, or QIMA), CPSC Children’s Product Certificates (CPC), and FDA registration numbers for topical/edible items.
  • Level 2 (Compliance): Verified ISO 9001/14001 certifications and social audit reports (e.g., Sedex/SMETA or BSCI) conducted within the last 12 months.
  • Level 3 (Logistics): Current Incoterms 2020 definitions and real-time shipping indices (e.g., Drewry’s World Container Index).

2. The “Compliance-First” Verification Step

Every product guide or supplier review undergoes a Regulatory Gate Review. This involves checking the specific Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes and ensuring that any claims regarding “Eco-friendly” or “Organic” materials meet the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) or Recycled Claim Standard (RCS). We manually verify the validity of “Authorized Distributor” status for brand-name promotional items (e.g., YETI, North Face) to prevent counterfeit circulation.

3. Industry-Specific Correction Example

CORRECTION (January 2026): In our previous review of Custom Lithium-Ion Power Banks, we stated the product was UL 2056 certified. Upon further audit of the manufacturer’s technical file, it was determined the certification applied only to the internal battery cell (UL 1642) and not the finished assembly. We have updated the guide to reflect this distinction, as it impacts liability for bulk distributors.
